Laura

Laura Sloman fell in love with West Point cadet Bud Reed on a visit to the academy with her sister in 1940.

 

Bud and Laura were married the day after Bud's graduation from West Point in 1942. Second Lieutenant Reed and his new bride set out for Bud's first assignment with the 91st  Infantry Division in Oregon, much the same way his parents had 25 years earlier.

 

Their son, Ollie W. Reed, III, was born in January 1944, just four months before his father shipped out for war.

 

Missing her husband terribly, Laura believed service in the Women's Air Corps would bring her closer to her beloved.

 

Her life had been tough but nothing could prepare Laura for what was to come.
